These are the thoughts I had back when I first heard (http://chris-walsh.livejournal.com/712024.html).

Huh; I hadn't heard that story about Adams' wife. She seems like a good sort, at least.

You'd probably appreciate Wish You Were Here, the authorized Douglas Adams biography by Nick Webb. I did. (Plus, unlike M.J. Simpson, Webb can actually write. I could only read snippets of Simpson's unauthorized biography and even those snippets were maddening -- I found what I read badly written, editorialized, and infused with the attitude Everything that's being done by people Not Me in Douglas's memory is shitting on that memory.

(You can tell I feel strongly about that?)

Anyway. Nick Webb. Wish You Were Here. Worthy work.

Wait, what is this nonsense? What's going on?

[identity profile] coyotegoth.livejournal.com 2009-03-11 06:04 am (UTC)(link)
Douglas Adams' widow has arranged for the author of the Artemis Fowl childrens' novels to write a new Hitchhiker's book.

Oh dear.

Run away! Run Away!

[identity profile] coyotegoth.livejournal.com 2009-03-11 06:27 am (UTC)(link)
And then drop a large wooden rabbit on them!

[identity profile] pixilateddryad.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 02:31 am (UTC)(link)

[identity profile] coyotegoth.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
Or even go old school- newt city!

[identity profile] silmaril.livejournal.com 2009-03-11 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
Who the who is "Eoin Colfer?"

(Yes, I am aware that Google would answer that question. I just don't wanna ask, because I'm feeling contrary.)

[identity profile] coyotegoth.livejournal.com 2009-03-11 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
He's the author of the Artemis Fowl childrens' novels; Douglas Adams' widow has arranged for him to write the new Hitchhiker's book.

Conversely, love the icon.

[identity profile] feyandstrange.livejournal.com 2009-03-11 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
It's coming in handy for all sorts of flamewar-ish topics. I didn't realize it would be so useful!

[identity profile] coyotegoth.livejournal.com 2009-03-11 06:25 am (UTC)(link)
An icon for all seasons- and appetizing, too!

[identity profile] shipchan.livejournal.com 2009-03-11 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Dude, off topic, but icon love!

[identity profile] txtriffidranch.livejournal.com 2009-03-11 04:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh. And you'd have thought that the movie adaptation would have fixed the fans for good.

[identity profile] single-path.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
*shrugs* I'll judge after I read the book. Personally, I'm a fan of Eoin. And from what I've read on his site, he holds no illusions about writing the book. His hope is that fan will accept it.

I guess they won't.

[identity profile] magnetgirl.livejournal.com 2009-03-12 08:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, um, I'm down with the not accepting crowd?

Leave well enough alone. Widow, well meaning writers-whomever.

I'm going to give it a shot because I love the universe (franchise? dare I call it that? I don't want to. Star Trek is a franchise, and look what's happened to it), but I am not holding my breath and squeeing.
