I'm here. The sun was rising as I left the airport, and I could swear I heard the strains of a Howard Shore score in the background. Slightly less exaltedly, I now have to bop around downtown Auckland- on 36 hours of no sleep- until 1 PM (it's about 7 AM now), when I can check in... but hell, that's part of the adventure.

Yeah! You might want to check out the Auckland Museum, and the part of town it's in is really pleasant, it's called Parnell. You could probably find a bus that goes there!

The Link Bus - catch it on Queen Street - is a goes-round-in-a-loop bus will get you to the Auckland museum, or to a neighborhood called Ponsonby with cafes-and-such.

A downtown street called High Street, which runs parallel to Queen Street, has some funky shoppage/cafes.

The Auckland Public Library, right downtown near "Aotea Square", is a great place to just chill out and not spend money, with local media/magazines/a decent cafe.

Viaduct Basin is OK to have a look around, but most of the food is expensive and blah.
