And as of 11AM today, it's been blocked by the same udge who issued yesterday's ruling.

well if the state constitution's guarantees that gay people be treated like umm...people...then clearly that state constitution needs to be amended. I just know that if gay people in Iowa are allowed to marry, my marriage will be as good as doomed.

Oh geez. It's over already????

Well, if it's in appeal then at least there's still hope for legal debate.

Difficult as it is to stomach, the stay on the ruling makes good sense. If the Supreme Court ultimately overturns the ruling and holds that same-sex marriage is not guaranteed by the state constitution, then any same-sex couples who get married in the interim could face a host of legal problems. As it is, one couple did manage to get a license in that very small time window, so for the time being they will apparently be the one same-sex married couple in the entire state.
