As a personal memo to the guy who, while discussing the work of John Carpenter in the Grassroots Taven on St. Mark's roughly ten years ago, drunkenly insisted that Richard Dysart's character did not have a rose ring, and even made fun of me for saying that Dysart's character had such a nose ring...

...there; I am nothing if not magnaminous in victory. (Sadbuttrufax: there are roughly eleventy bazillion close-ups shots of what happens to his character in the movie, and not one good facial closeup displaying the nose ring. *sigh*)

Major points for invoking Grassroots, my favorite of all dive bars. I passed many late nights there in college (so they tell me -- my memory's a little hazy) listening to what was then the world's greatest jukebox.

I'm not joking when I say that, when I remember that we could have had a Golden Compass directed by him, rather than by the guy who shot American Pie, the world becomes that much colder.
