This article on Black Angel, the short film by the art director of Star Wars that accompanied The Empire Strikes Back in its original theatrical release (although apparently not in Potsdam- WTF, Roxy theater management?) makes me intensely curious.

Hmm, I did see The Empire Strikes Back in the theater, but I don't remember that.

Yeah; limited release pattern, I'm thinking.

(Oddly, given the raves this got, the director went on to helm Battlefield Earth; even more oddly, that's actually piquing my curiosity further.)

I saw Empire on opening day with a group of friends at the Loews Astor Plaza in Manhattan, a high-profile location where one might think this would have played, but it definitely didn't. (Boy, that day was memorable not just for the fact of Empire but because one member of our group showed up late, the show was sold out, thus we weren't able to sit together, and so we all decided to sit together in the *aisle* way in the back. That doesn't get to happen anymore, I think.)
