By the way, there is nothing quite like sitting in the Auckland Sky Lounge, enjoying an afternoon coffee as one looks out at the skyline... which is suddenly interrupted by a figure suspended in midair, giving a thumbs up before suddenly plummeting to earth.)

My first sight of New Zealand; I loved having an immediate look at Maori artwork.

I left the airport just as the sun was rising.

No idea what this is; I'm lucky it didn't make a grab for me.

I'm a little discourages that this picture doesn't do a better job of showing just how steep this hillside- that I had just scrambled straight up- really was.

Clearly, New Zealand *is* Middle-earth, complete with ents.
