Yeah; other than Stardust Memories or Crimes and Misdemeanors (Or Purple Rose of Cairo, up until the ending, which I *loathed*), that pretty well sums up Woody Allen for me. It takes a certain kind of genius to feature Penelope Cruz making out with Scarlett Johansson, and make it boring.
Vicky Cristina Barcelona was decent; this article (http://men.style.com/gq/features/full?id=content_7402) from GQ sheds some light on it.
From its nostalgia for volcanic artists to its palaver about sexual experimentation as the shortcut to self-discovery, everything in Vicky Cristina makes more sense if you dial the time machine back forty years and view it as Allen’s belated valentine to the ’60s.... To those of us who’ve spent decades wearily watching him stack the deck to invalidate everybody’s morals but his own, his generosity here is as wondrous, in its way, as Nixon’s opening to China.
