Last year at this time, I was working week to week as a freelancer, barely making ends meet. Now, I'm on staff at the best place at which I've ever worked; I've stayed on through a crippling round of layoffs, including the man who hired me. I'm traveling to New Zealand soon; I'm thinking of hiking the Appalachian Trail; right now, I'm home in Potsdam with my father (it may well be my last trip up here; we've been trying to get him to move nearer to my sister for years now, and he's finally agreed), getting ready for Thanksgiving dinner. I've seen many friends over the last year who I see far too seldom, this last year, and met many new ones.

Happy T-day! And if you hike the A.T., let me know. I'm close enough to the part that goes through the Shenandoah National Park to help you resupply, etc.
