I adore that the guy who played Cedric Diggory is now playing angst!teen vampire; is there actually anything to these books...?

(ETA: if you don't read her LJ, [livejournal.com profile] cleolinda has amusing summaries of the books up; she also shares some of the best of the Twilight fandom crazy. Man, these things really are this year's Cabbage Patch Kid dolls, aren't they?)

They are hilarity personified, and "embarrassingly engrossing."

So of course, I'm itching to get my hands on books II through IV.

In rereading this, now I want Cedric Diggory to come back as a sparkly vampire. Imagine the fanfic!

No no no no no.

These books are evil. Poorly written, fundamentally dismissive of teens who are outcasts (in an even weirder way than JKR's) and are all glorifying an obsessive codependent relationship and having teenagers get married so they can then have sex appropriately. They are extraordinarily sexist.

Also, ALSO -- at one point a baby is born by vampire-tooth c-section.

Andyou obviously read all 4 books otherwise you wouldn't have known about that last bit. ;)

Nope. I was told about it. Someone sent me the ebooks of all four, so I could review cogently, but I haven't managed more than 20 pages of any of them.

Well, as I said, they're not exactly great fiction. However, there are some good qualities to the books, and the characters are very vivid; the scene as you described is not as horrible as you make it sound taken out of context.

I'm told methamphetamines has some good qualities as well...

These books have all the great qualities of The Elder Protocols of Zion.

Someone on another LJ linked to a macro of the chestburster scene in Alien, with the baby's name superimposed o_O

One thing we can say about HP fandom - at least we never rioted at Hot Topic.

(Twilight fans riot at the mall! (http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Twilight-Fans-Turn-Into-A-Violent-Mob-10828.html))

Have you followed [livejournal.com profile] cleolinda's LJ WRT Twilight fandom craziness? It's like vampiric Cabbage Patch dolls.

Living dead, sparkly Cedric is truely wonderful. The books are good if you enjoy hurting yourself in that special way only some books can.

Thanks. I feel like H.P. would have dug Twilight, if at least for it bloody, disturbing, birth scene.

I love the books..just finished book IV... Very very hard to put down. They're not great fiction, not by any stretch of the imagination. But strangely addicting.

I finished the ebook of Twilight a few weeks back.

It was neither as good as I hoped, nor as bad as I hoped.

I loved the description of the place, felt more sympathy with some of the characters than I'd expected.... but in terms of pacing it's dreadful, and it's remarkably how quickly the romance starts to look really unequal and more than a bit creepy.

In short, I'd read the other books if there was a way of getting at them for free. Not otherwise.

[livejournal.com profile] cleolinda has written some hysterical summaries of the books (especially Book IV), if you can't face reading the things yourself.

Good luck, if you decide to go for it!

I haven't read them. Personally, I'm sick of the whole "vampire" thing. The only vampire I like is Otto from the Discworld series.

I'm glad you're brave enough to ask this question so now I don't have to embarrass myself by purchasing the books. :P

I thought Robert Pattinson as Cedric was cute but as Edward he's hot!
