elionwyr asks a question I think I'll repeat: "what is the first song you remember learning? Or the first pop song you can recall recognizing/enjoying?"
For my part, the first song I remember enjoying was "Day By Day" from Godspell; the first song I actually remember being taught was from Sunday school:
The first song I remember having a strong emotion from was "How Deep is Your Love" by the Bee Gees. Being 6, I didn't really understand the words, but I knew it meant something emotionally very important, and it touched me.
Jeremiah was a bullfrog He was a good friend of mine I never understood a single word he said but I helped him drink his wine . . . and he always had some mighty fine wine
Singin' Joy to the world All the boys and girls Joy to the fishes in the deep blue sea and Joy to you and me!
I believe that was done by 3 Dog Night, but I'd have to google it to be sure
Mine would be Jesus Christ Superstar. I knew the whole thing by kindergarten. It's my Dad's favorite movie/slash album. That or The Lemon tree song by Peter Paul and Mary. I guess my folks didn't go in for kid music exactly.
