Alexander Courage has passed away, at the age of 88. Courage wrote the fanfare and theme to Star Trek, and composed music for and/or orchestrated for many other films (he was one of the orchestrators for the 1959 Goldwyn/Preminger version of Porgy and Bess; he was still working in the ‘90s, orchestrating such films as Jurassic Park, as well as the Star Trek films First Contact and Insurrection. Rest in peace, Mr. Courage.

Also one of the directors of the most beloved Star Trek eps has died as well. I can't remember his name off-hand, but he directed Trouble with Tribbles, and the one where Kirk and Spock go back to the Great Depression.
