Date: 2008-05-29 03:03 am (UTC)I honestly don't know. It's just the way I'm wired I guess. I really love people and I hate seeing sadness or pain so I just want to comfort and help. It's probably why I fell so deeply in love with Law Enforcement these past few years. Helping those hurt was so deeply rewarding for me. Sadly, that's on hold since I was shot.
Also, I've lived though lots of shit in my life. I've had to struggle every day and it only got harder when I was thrown out of my house at age 18. However, there was always someone there to guide and encourage me and the past 15 years or so have been really wonderful for me. I just want to for others what was done for me.
I want nothing in return, my happiness is to see someone succeed, grow, thrive.
It's that or I was a total prick in my last life and I'm working on fixing it. Either answer is good I guess.

Date: 2008-05-29 12:37 am (UTC)A lot of it was parents who were movie appreciaters -- Dad was practically a latent movie student (once he retired, he really got interested in how'd-they-make-it details) -- and the movies were easy to see and study, even when we were moving a lot. (Dad was career Navy.) I really started paying attention in high school, writing reviews for my school paper. I wrote papers on films in college, plus working for a year as a projectionist for one of my professors, and my senior thesis talked about both the psychology and the use of music in The Fisher King, as I'm interested n film music. After that, I did movie reviews an average of almost once a week for three years at my newspaper job.
LJ's been a good outlet since then for my movie writing, and I've gravitated towards movie reviewers (pros like
And Robyn's neat and worthy, isn't she? I've known her online since 2003; she's on of my favorite LJ writers, and in fact a lot of my F-list came from hers, especially
