Yes, they're making a sequel to Donnie Darko- which, while a fascinating film, had a negligible gross... not to mention the fact that it's not exactly sequel-friendly. This begs the question: what other potential sequels has Hollywood overlooked?

Citizen Kane II: The Wrath of Kane

Son of Eraserhead: Mother's Day

Dr. Strangelove: Nuclear Winter Carnival

Return of the Black Hole: Even Holier

What else is missing, LJ? Inquiring minds want to know!

It's my personal opinion that every sequel should be called The Reckoning.

Y Tu Mama Tambien: The Reckoning . . .

Personally, I'm fond of Sid & Nancy II, but Return of The Doors would work, too.

How about sequels you just might want to see. The followup to Buckaroo Banzai or Flash Gordon for example. I doubt they could capture the fun of the originals but at least those do hang out the possibility.

Yeah; I'm still bitter about waiting for ages for Buckaroo Banzai and the World Crime League. (A Flash Gordon sequel would be great, although Brian Blessed, for one, is getting a bit long in the tooth. I saw Melody Anderson a con recently, though: She's still cute as a button.)

Good luck on the Buckaroo Banzai sequel. Cinefantastique ran an article on that nearly twenty years ago: it seems that the producer wanted to make the film "straight", and couldn't understand why everyone in the cast and crew was trying to make it campy. Apparently, he got so pissed off that he refused to allow a sequel, and since he owned 51 percent of the film, it's not going to happen. (From what I understood, this was part of the reason why it took so long for the film to come out on DVD.)

Ignatius Goes to Washington

Eerily plausible! Also- apparently, there's a bronze statue (http://www.virtualtourist.com/travel/North_America/United_States_of_America/Louisiana/New_Orleans-793014/General_Tips-New_Orleans-Art_and_Statues-BR-1.html)of Ignatius J. Reilly under the clock on the down-river side of the 800 block of Canal Street, on the former site of the D.H. Holmes Department Store- now the Chateau Sonesta Hotel. The statue mimics the opening scene, in which Ignatius waits for his mother under the D.H. Holmes clock.

(Fun trivia factoid: the blond he's with at the end is Kristy Swanson. Duckie, the Vampire Slayer!)

i guess they could make a sequel to seven. don't know if they'd call it eight or use roman numerals for two so that it looks like a movie about a quickie mart...might be cool to see. anyway, it would get morgan freeman away from all those flowers-and-hearts movies...maybe, as a twist, he could be the crazy killer.
