I'm in a strange, tense mood today; perhaps it's the weather, perhaps the difficult week at work. In any case, I feel a strong sense of foreboding; I'm even forgoing the 5 Borough Bike Tour this year, as biking 43 miles- even perfectly flat ones- sounds a bit much right now. Still- Dad will be in town this weekend, and we're meeting for dinner at Peter Luger's; perhaps that will help.

What's cheering you up today? I could use a happy thought or two.

I'm cheered by the idea that our next state senator might be a Harvard-educated, liberal-activist midget with a hook for a hand:

Mmm, you and your dad eating at Peter Luger's this weekend. I adore that place.

Q rang me on his mobile after work. A blackbird starting singing in the background - so loud that I could hear every chortle and warble and tweet through the phone!

(well, it charmed me)

Yay dads! Mine is out of the hospital, safe and home, off oxygen and eating his own damn tuna salad. It ain't Luger's, but after two weeks of hospital food or tube feeds, it's probably heaven.

That is truly excellent news; it definitely lifts my spirits :)

The weather does have a heavy, foreboding feel, doesn't it?

I am in love and loved. That helps me, heals me.

These are very good things (except the weather, of course).

Sending letters, the memory of an amazing Old-Fashioned with muddled orange and brandied cherries earlier this week (and the memory of Crawford singing "Make It An Old-Fashioned" bringing a wistful smile), and rest in the future.

Where was the Old Fashioned mixed, if I may ask? I've been meaning to try them for ages.

Quarter, on Sixth Avenue and 20th Street in Brooklyn (yeah, a block down from Bar BQ; it's becoming a dangerous area). Good jukebox, too. I think you'll enjoy it.

Thank you; I'll have to check that out.
