Jackson would have definitely been the ideal. I'm not sure what I think about the idea of Raimi doing it, though I like his work very much. I just know I hated Pan's Labryinth with a passion. I won't go into detail about why, because everyone else in the world seems to love that movie with passion and my objections always fall on deaf ears. But suffice it to say I am worried.
I respect your opinions (artistic and otherwise), so I'd be curious, were you of a mind to share; if you like, you can email me at coyote.goth@gmail.com.
I'm actually pretty much at peace with that. Much better del Toro than Raimi, as you said. I think Pete and Guillermo have pretty compatible visions and shooting styles. As long as they use Weta for the look of the thing and Fran and Philippa for the script, I'm happy.
The two movie thing is weird to me, though, and hasn't been adequately explained.
...Really. I'm not sure how I feel about that, except to hope that someone pointed out to Del Toro "You know that The Hobbit is supposed to be *lighter and happier* in tone than LOTR, right?"
