Surprisingly touching moment last night, as I briefly stopped by piano bar, where Luke, a native of the Toronto region, was playing piano. upon finding out that one of the customers was also from Canada, he immediate started playing- and singing the little-known lyrics to- the old Friendly Giant TV show, which had me missing the north country more than I have in ages. Must talk to Dad about a trip home, horrific 8-hour Greyhound ride and all.
For now, though, I'm preparing for another piano bar trip tonight, followed by tomorrow's journey to Massachusetts, and some serious Uncle Coyote time. Am also contemplating a possible trip- Pennsic, this time, in the company of Zorikh, my apartment mate. It means eight hours of driving on my part, but it could well be worth it, if only to spend a week at a place where everybody sings.
I'll be back Monday; please leave a message at the *beep*...

Date: 2003-07-25 02:21 am (UTC)For years, anytime the subject of favorite childhood TV shows has come up in conversation, I've always asked if anyone could remember the the name of the show that started out with a giant arranging furniture around a fireplace, to the tune of Greensleeves (or so I remembered).
I've never gotten anything but blank looks. I was the only who knew what I was ever talking about.
But now I know it was The Friendly Giant!!
One of the great mysteries of my adulthood SOLVED! In an instant!
This has actually made me tear up. I didn't cry, but my eyes filled up momentarily.
The Friendly Giant. Now I know.
*sigh*

Surely I've heard it during the intervening years, but if so, I don't remember.
I love blasts from the past.
