I have to be amused with myself sometimes. Just now, I'm thinking of how in good health, I'm a fairly quiescent creature, happy to settle for the occasional walk home (to Williamsburg, from midtown), so far as exercise goes. When I'm ill, however, all I c an think of is good, vigorous exercise; more than once, I've made an illness worse by pushing myself unwisely during the recovery phase. How I made it through the recuperation after back surgery without signing up for a marathon, I'll never know.

(In oth er news, Issue #5 of the second volume of Alan Moore's The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is quite possibly the most disturbing thing I've read in a purportedly mainstream comic since Rorschach's discussion with the psychiatrist in Watchmen. Suffice to say, yikes.)

I sympathise with this. It is a point of honour with me to be totally heroic when I'm not well, and keep on going. Which always causes more trouble in the long run.
