In the absence of a teacher, I've started creating exercises for myself, in order to push myself to get better at photography.

Your favorite length of the 28-80 mm zoom is the 28 mm? Fine- today, go through at least a roll without using it once- 35, 50 and 80 mm increments only (although this is tricky as well, as I originally learned on a 50 mm lens in high school, and know it far too well. That may have to to go, too).

You think you're shooting too indiscriminately, covering anything that catches your eye? Today, go to one of your favorite locations. Don't shoot until you've been there at least half an hour, and only shoot six frames, no matter what occurs in front of you.

You're nervous about shooting hi-con photography? Well, start reading up on it...

..and so on. This isn't a hobby; it's something I'm doing as a means of artistic expression, and with the aim of becoming a professional. For all the snits of impatience and frustration when I don't like the results, I need to keep pushing myself- to keep reaching.t
