And now, judging by the auditory clues, the chap on the floor below us is kicking freshly-varnished drawers down the stairs, one at a time. Earlier today, he had smiled up at me as I walked by, and explained how he was varnishing these drawers as a labor of love for his girlfriend; looks like things have gone south in that department, alas.
