So, yes- application to be finished and sent by Monday. Two Towers in Jersey tomorrow, followed by much comic book geekery, with Andy, who's been a friend for over 20 years. Odd, to thank that he gave me The Silmarillion when I was 12 or so- well before I really felt up to routing through it. Odder still, to think that he, too shaves his head these days- perhaps this is endemic among male Potsdam Central School graduates? Has anyone seen a recent picture of Phil Hurley...?µ

I have taken a crack at the Silmarillion a couple of times, but I have yet to get through it. Or, in fact, to get into the second chapter. I love the first chapter. Creation by music, it's a beautiful idea. But the second chapter jumps so far ahead to such different people that I just kept losing the thread.

I haven't tried in the last few years, maybe it's time for another go....

No, this isn't a REALLY overdue comment; I was going back through my early-2003 entries, and saw that I'd never responded to this. What I wanted to say, and would have, were I not such a slacker, is "I love the idea of creation by music; I wonder if he got the idea from C. S. Lewis's Narnia books, or vice versa."
