I am immensely, even surprisingly put out by this: when I came to work today, my computer was gone, and a shiny, plastic iMac had taken its place. Now, we'll ignore the fact that I have no experience on macs whatsoever- after all, I learned the PC by fumbling with it (with some help from the patient folks at Computer Support). Instead, I just really, really, dislike the fact that the computer I'd had for the last three years- the computer on which I was introduced to all of you- is simply GONE. :|
All my bookmarks, my AIM, everything- GONE.

...grr.l

That sucks! They should have given you a chance to transfer material (bookmarks and whatever) first. It's rude to do that to someone, to say the least. I mean, even a work computer gains a certain sentimental value for the person who uses it for long. That's just not cool at all. :-/

As far as the iMac is concerned, if I can be of any assistance to you, let me know. Are you using OS X or OS 9? Really, it should be pretty easy to learn, and I'll be glad to assist you if you'd like. (-:

Your kind offer is much appreciated, my friend :) As to the nitty-gritty- even on a PC, my skills/knowledge never extended much beyond the "type in URL to reach Web site" level; here, I'm currently wrestling with the concept of bookmarks- locating/creating same on a Mac. So, as to operating sytem- you'll be the second to know ;);

Well, just let me know if ever I can be of any help. (-:

As to the OS, if you've got icons on the bottom of the screen that get bigger when you mouse over them, and the apple in the top left corner is blue or gray, then you've got OS X, whereas if the icons are all on the right and the apple in the top left corner is rainbow striped, you have OS 9. If it's a newer iMac, chances are you have OS X. Apple's have a reputation for being easy to learn, but they're still a whole different animal from a Windows box.

FYI, I love Macs. :-)

Hmm- per your description, looks like I have OS 9 on my hands. JSYK, none of my crankiness was aimed at Apple products per se- just at the fact that I've had five hours to learn it, as compared to five-odd years' experience on a PC. Anyway, how goes with you- any new music of late? ;)s

Ah, I wasn't worried about it. I was actually trying more to establish that I would enjoy helping you. (-:

As for new musik... Well, all the recent stuff was an extra-early birthday gift (three moons shy of my 36th, to be exact), so there won't be anything new for awhile now. However, I'm always happy to recommend stuff. You are certainly welcome to recommend things to me, too. There's always AudioGalaxy, after all. (-;
