Alternative ways to choose a new Pope: 1) An on-the-spot assassination of the previous Pope, including live coverage by Howard Cosell. 2) Journey in a PBR up the river, and terminate the old Pope's command. 3) The lirpa; failing that, the ahn woon. 4) Take the old Pope to Mount Doom; throw him in. 5) A beheading of the old Pope, followed by an electrical discharge and a voice exclaiming, "There can be only one!"

(Scratch that last; judging by the new guy's public statements, we do NOT want him to turn out to be immortal.)
