(no subject)
Jan. 5th, 2009 09:24 pmThe good: Brian Eno has been hired to score Peter Jackson’s film of The Lovely Bones; Eno’s such a wild card, it’s hard to make any predictions- but this could be brilliant.
The weird: Apparently, Stephen Soderbergh is working on a 3-D live-action rock musical version of the life of Cleopatra, to be called Cleo. In my opinion, this could only work if 1) they scrap the 3-D; I have yet to see a 3-D movie that used it as anything but a ‘50s holdover gimmick, and 2) they can Soderbergh, and bring in Todd Haynes. Cleopatra and Octavian had a huge propaganda war when they were vying for political control; that subject could really work for Haynes, IMHO.
(I see he’s also planning a film about Liberace, with Michael Douglas; I remember a few years back, when Philip Kaufman was doing to be doing it with Robin Williams. All things considered, not certain if this is crazier or not.)
(Hey, did you know that the guy who wrote The Wrestler used to be editor-in-chief of The Onion? Never would’ve thought it.)

Some things in this world are simply sublime; once one has had the chance to view them, one can then comfortably say to oneself, "I have now experienced this things as fully as I ever, ever have to. While I might well encounter others of its ilk, I will never again experience a one of these which so clearly deliniates the full potentiality of one of those. I have grokked it in fullness."
( For example, once one has encountered 'Oops, I did it again' as played on a flaming tuba... )
