A-biking I shall go
May. 6th, 2007 04:04 amI’m about to get up and shower, before heading out to begin preparations for the 43-mile Five Boro (yes, that’s how they spell it) Bike Tour. I could’ve done with more of a sound night’s sleep before heading out; alas, pre-event nerves saw to it that most of my time was alternately spent attempting to sleep, working on my next Harry Potter chapter (it’s almost worth missing a night’s sleep to have gone from rough chapter outline, to handwritten draft, to finally just sitting in front of the laptop and typing out final copy, all in one brief span), and watching Re-Animator. (After tomorrow, I may well need some reanimation fluid myself.) Still, I’ve made it through worse; the first days of both of the Boston/NY AIDS Rides that I did were accomplished after sleepless nights: far worse terrain in terms of hills, and more than twice the distance. Unless I wipe out and wind up bouncing off the road (as I did last time I tried this- OW!), I’ll be okay.
Also, before I head out, I want to mention this essay, by
calimac. It discusses various differences between the Lord of the Rings novels and Peter Jackson’s adaptation of same, with particular attention to references to the Eye of Sauron; while I liked the movies rather better than he seemed to (I’m going by comments made elsewhere, and not simply the essay itself), I found this well-written, informative, and delightful.
