Mar. 4th, 2016 02:36 amDoubly jarring: in looking through the section of my LJ memories dedicated to memorials (it's been that sort of a night), two things happened:
1) I came across a comment in a dead friend's LJ entry from about ten years ago addressed *to me*.
2) Just as my mind drifted to memories of NYC's vampire scene (of which I was never a member, although many friends moved through it), I clicked on one particular link- to a Yahoo group, of all things, featuring a photo of a dead former regent. I'd met him in passing once or twice; although I can't claim to have known him, he was a gifted artisan, and a man of true style in a culture far too often devoted to poses and attitudes. He killed himself just around this time of year; my friend from #1 above asked if I would go with her to his memorial; I declined on the grounds that I feel awkward going to memorials of people I know a *bit*. Strangers, fine; friends- well, I've had practice, at least; the funeral of an acquaintance leaves me feeling wrong-footed, somehow. Ah, well: rest in peace, D.
