I've always been fond of that memorial and that area, and visited it a lot: the wall itself, the soldier sculpture near it, the P.O.W./M.I.A. vigil site between it and the Lincoln Memorial. One of my favorite photos I've taken was there right after dawn one summer morning in 1993, with no one at the wall yet; I stood behind the sculpture and framed almost the whole length of the wall from end to end of a panoramic shot. (It's nearly impossible to get the entire wall into one photo, but I got acceptably close.) In my experience, people do indeed get quieter there; I hope they are understanding why the wall is there. I hope I always try to.
