Insomnia :( I've been consoling myself by rewatching the '78 Superman which, for all that the effects are understandably far from state of the art by today's standards, and for all that the Gene Hackman/Ned Beatty scenes tend to be a bit bored comedically- OK, a lot broad- is still absolutely the template for how ones makes that sort of movie. Chris Nolan, Bryan Singer, Tim Burton- artists all, they all owe Richard Donner (who in his commentary track turns out to have a voice like Hoyt Axton's) a debt. Now, I'm dubiously eyeing the copy of Superman III I fished out of the $1.99 bin; my memory tells me that other than the goofy opening and Superman flicking beer nuts through whiskey bottles, it's pretty much a wash. Suspect I will forebear, as am weak from lack of sleep.
