I thought this was very bittersweet until I read the rest of the story. Apparently, the husband was under some kind of investigation hat was likely leading up to them taking away his license. Suffice to say, his driving record had been getting progressively worse but he jumped behind the wheel of his car and either turned in front of or cut off another couple (I forget which).
The irony is that while this couple got to be together, the woman in the other car who broke her back is in a separate hospital from her husband.
Yes, 72 years is an amazing lifetime and I'm happy they made it work but on the other hand their story didn't have to end that way. :(
