Have slept for almost 12 hours; am definitely the better for it. Have excavated my copy of The Breakfast Club as background for a Marauders-era fic, so there's that.

This reminds me of one of my biggest complaints about ROwling: the females. There is only a shred of a female friendship between Ginny and Hermione, and both girls are the sort who'd much rather hang out with boys than other girls. For Marauders-era fic, there's *one* girl and a pack of boys. (Admittedly casting Snape as the loner goth chick in Breakfast Club works all too well, but srsly Rowling, WTF no girls who have female friends.)

...and Lupin as the essay-writer, yes?

Very true, this; one of the things I like best about your fic is that it goes against this trend. Lupin as the essay-writer (suicide because his potion went wrong? Lupin is bad at potions in canon, IIRC), most definitely (and yes, Snape as the Ally Sheedy character). May I pick your brain for advice on late-70s fashion/music advice?

One of my goals was to flip the viewpoints on the whole story: from Slytherin, from girls instead of boys, and so on. Glad it's succeeding!

I think I like a cursed object suicide better. That way Sheedy-Snape won't snipe at Lupin for it, and it's more entertaining if it explodes in his locker-trunk.

Also, levitating lipstick. (Oh my, even more oral sex reference.)

Fashion advice: Certainly! My late-Seventies UK is a bit rusty, but it's available. (Also, first two weeks of August = me too busy to do more than wave at the Internet in passing.) (Ooh, music, that'd be fun! Sadly Snape is too early for the Smiths.)

Hrrm; I want it to be seventh year (the kids are going to be actively contemplating their own adulthood, as well as their imminent Order of the Phoenix/Death Eaterdom, which I'm hoping will give the story most of its dramatic tension)(See what happens when you become an adult?); given the HP lexicon date for James' birth, that makes it 1978. I could definitely be persuaded to 1977, though (Clash album release! James and the boys might not listen to Muggle music; Lily is definitely a princess for the parents, a punk on the streets, and she would).

Lipstick reference, yes; also, Sirius wants to be suggestively licking envelopes, which more than one member of the group (Sirius = rebel; James = athlete; Remus = brain; Lily = punk/princess; Snape = Ally Sheedyesque) will be pretending not to stare at.

I'd actually been thinking of the first Cure album, but apparently "Boys Don't Cry" didn't single until 1979. I can TOTALLY SEE Lily playing it for Snape and not really realizing just how horrible a thing it would be, and yet so horribly appropriate.

...envelopes? What on earth is he doing with envelopes? Just lick your wand already, Sirius.
