In shopping for an air conditioner, I've noticed something odd: they all tend to be rated by square footage- "can cool an area up to 150 square feet," or some such. Unless the manufacturers (I've checked several brands; they all seem to rate their products in this fashion) are assuming a standardized ceiling height (I hope not; my room's ceilings are rather higher than average), then wouldn't it make more sense for them to be rating their air conditioners' efficacy in terms of the total number of cubic feet of air that the conditioner can reliably cool?
