Bad news for my apartment mate today; as I walked out into the kitchen to make tea, I heard Boogie (my apartment mate) sobbing helplessly. It seems her cat Priscilla, who’s had trouble with her appetite and a general lack of energy of late, went for a checkup (one of many); an ultrasound revealed some sort of mass in Priscilla’s stomach, and her lymph nodes are swollen. The vet thinks it may be cancer; Boogie’s bringing her in for a biopsy tomorrow. (And my first reaction, I have to admit, was one of relief; Priscilla’s been so frail, I thought that Boogie’s sobs meant that the cat had died.) I can’t express what draining news this is for Boogie; she’s been hand-feeding Priscilla to encourage her to eat, rescheduling a trip to Europe so that she could be there to care for Priscilla, and generally doing everything possible in this situation.
