Back from a relatively quiet, subdued night at piano bar; as there was an email awaiting me which spoke of cancelled plans, it looks as though the weekend will be relatively low-key, as well. A surprise appearance from Mark Alan James, singing "Scenes From an Italian Restaurant" and "On a Clear Day You Can See Forever," which was nice. Then, a touching moment as Robbie the piano player announces that this was the anniversary of the death of Billie Holiday, and Chuck gets up to sing a lovely, subdued "God Bless the Child"- and it all suddenly felt right, in a plangent, achey way.
