Had a remarkably sleep-free night last night, which led into what started as a rather groggy singing lesson (the hammering noises from outside would have been nice, had they been on the beat, but I could've done without the clutter on the- many- stairs leading up to my instructor's apartment). Usual warm-ups, leading into my slightly undersinging as usual; this leads into a discussion of vocal confidence, and how I should try to find the pitch rather than simply listening to the piano. This in turn leads to her putting "Mister Cellophane"- a song which requires far more belting than I usually try for- on the stand... and before I even know it, I'm going through the song, not undersinging it at all; vaguely listening to my voice reverberate off the practice room walls, not straining for the notes at all, they're just there, and my thoughts can best be summed up as where the hell did this come from?

I cannot carry a tune in a damn bucket, yet I am nearly always singing, and usually not in that quiet way. I have to give the disclaimer is someone is riding with me that I'll be happy to stop singing.

I'm starting to get better at that- at just letting it fly. A good lesson to learn.

My grandmother, who knew SAS, said, that it's not the ability to sing but feeling like you want to that's important.

But I suspect she was trying to make me feel better.
