A random thought: I once had a conversation with [personal profile] digitalsidhe in which he pointed out the irony that Monty Python, who in their day were absolutely cutting edge humorists, have almost become a symbol of nerd conformity: when nerds meet, Python quotes will be exchanged, like some sort of Masonic handshake. That said, the opposite has also come to pass: to quote from more mainstream contemporaneous comedy- say, "Sock it to me!"- would be engaging in far more of an authentically nerdy reference at this point.
