Aug. 1st, 2014 06:23 pmGotta admit, summarizing Stranger in 30 seconds makes me think of Python's "Summarize Proust" sketch. Ummm... "It's the bastard child of Voltaire's Candide and Cabell's Jurgen, written by a guy who was clearly down with the free love (and maybe kinda wishes he could be down with the gay, despite a Bible belt upbringing: when culturally superior VM Smith goes to kiss cranky author surrogate Jubal Harshaw, doesn't Harshaw say something like "If I were fifty years younger, maybe I could try this and like it?"), but who didn't throw off his cultural/religious/racial/sexual prejudices nearly as completely as he thought he did." Whoops, forgot to say "cryptofascist!"
