favorite films
Apr. 18th, 2014 02:08 pmSince I haven't done something like this in a while, a list of my 11 favorite films.
1) The original '77 version of Star Wars- garbage mattes, incompletely rotoscoped lightsaber blades, and all; I love thinking that Lucas only *just* pulled that movie off.
2) Citizen Kane- as Pauline Kael says, probably more sheer fun than any other great movie.
3) Dr Strangelove (except this one).
4) Keaton's The General (Navigator and Sherlock Jr could both EASILY warrant a spot here).
5) Seven Samurai.
6) Big Trouble in Little China.
7) Stroheim's The Wedding March- a tattered masterpiece.
8) The Big Lebowski.
9) Ride the High Country.
10) Terry Gilliam's Jabberwocky- I'll always be grateful that I first saw this before I had ever heard of Monty Python.
11) Plus, of course, the original '33 King Kong, in which Willis O' Brien uses an 18" puppet to give one of the greatest performances in film history.
