1st Ever East Bay Youth Pride!
Jul. 20th, 2013 12:50 amIf you can, please make a donation to the first ever East Bay Youth Pride. They are working to raise $2,000 to support our queer and trans youth leaders as they organize the event; all money raised will benefit the event, covering the cost of a sound system, an ADA accessible stage, porta potties, and stipends to honor the leadership of the qt organizers via stipends. I quote from the fundraising site:
"FIERCE LOVE is this year's theme. As queer and trans youth we need to stand up and be fiercely loving to ourselves and our community. With FIERCE LOVE anything and everything is possible!

"In partnership with LGBTQ youth, adults and allies, Our Space: where it is safe to be yourself creates safe and affirming space where LGBTQ youth can socialize, build community, develop leadership skills and access culturally relevant mental health services. Our Space holds the experiences, strengths and needs of youth impacted by poverty, homelessness and the child welfare and juvenile justice systems at its core, and recognizes these youth as fierce and fabulous change-agents in our communities.
"At the heart of everything we do at Our Space (and hanging in glitter on our wall), we ask this question:
"How do you show fierce love to yourself and your community?"
"We ask this question because in a world where queer and trans youth are stigmatized and marginalized on the daily, we think it takes a lot of ferocity to stand up against that hate and choose to love ourselves AND our community unconditionally and for all that we are.
"All Our Space services are infused with this concept of fierce love and include:
•An LGBTQ youth drop-in center with programming 3 days per week
•"Fierce Heart" LGBTQ youth support group
•Therapy and case management services with LGBTQ providers
•Direct placement stabilization, advocacy & support services for LGBTQ youth in foster care
•LGBTQ Training to child welfare workers, foster parents and service providers
•Intergenerational community building between LGBTQ youth and adults
•LGBTQ youth leadership opportunities. Our QOOL Youth Committee (Queer outNstanding Organizing Leaders) are currently planning the first ever East Bay Youth Pride to be held in Hayward, CA in August 2013!!!!!!!
•And referrals and linkages to critical support services
"We work with youth who have often been made to feel invisible in their lives. Central to our work is coming to authentically know and celebrate our youth. Our Space services are relationship-based and holistic, prioritize intergenerational community building, empowerment strategies, and mind, body and soul wellness. At Our Space LGBTQ youth receive support to build healthy relationships with themselves and their community at large, and develop their capacity to heal from trauma, identify and communicate their needs, envision their future, and make progress towards living out their dreams.
"Our Space serves LGBTQ youth ages 14 - 24, many of whom are living in poverty and have been impacted by homelessness, the child welfare or juvenile justice systems. Approximately 90% of Our Space members are youth of color. We serve over 100 unduplicated youth each year.
"All of the money raised for Our Space has a direct impact on the lives of queer and trans youth. We invite you to show fierce love for LGBTQ youth in your community by donating to Our Space today."
