Huh- apparently, Larry Kramer and Ellen Barkin stopped by Marie's Crisis last night; alas, I've never been a regular there. Really must catch up with the Bradway Normal Heart; I haven't seen the show since spring of '88, when our college campus was the first in the nation to put it on. (The power went out just before the climactic scene, which was performed by candlelight, thereby making that scene even MORE wrenching, if possible.)

And, on a lighter note...

1) I find myself wanting to re-view Vampire's Kiss; I read something earlier today that reminded me of nothing so much as Nicolas Cage running through the streets, yelling, "I'm a vampire! I'm a vampire!"

2) While the genre colloquially known as blaxpoitation will always be hugely problematic, and while simply utilizing cliches of said genre in a movie that parodies the form is hardly the same as actually satirizing or inverting said cliches, the scene in Black Dynamite where President Nixon leaps up onto the Oval Office desk, brandishing nunchaku while yelling "Showtime, motherfucker!" at the film's hero, may just be my favorite thing in the entire universe.

3) I still need to see Tree of Life.

Three wavering Democratic lawmakers in the State Senate on Monday announced that they now support the legalization of same-sex marriage in New York, marking a potential turning point for the long-debated measure.
