I'm spending today thinking about some worrisome news I can't really go into here, so instead, a list of things that are making me happy (along with my Space:1999 boxed set (speaking of Space:1999, have y'all seen this fan video, scripted by series writer Johnny Byrne?)- more than Star Wars, more than Star Trek: if my geek childhood had an epicenter, this was it):

-After knowing her for almost ten years online, I finally got to meet the lovely [livejournal.com profile] theotoky (and her husband, who is quite the film buff) last night, along with seeing various other folks I rarely see. Theo, I am pleased to say, is every bit as warm and funny in person as she is online; even with a good deal of my attention being spent thinking about the abovementioned situation, I had a lovely time.

-Also, I got to meet [livejournal.com profile] xzarakizraiia over lunch on Friday, which was also lovely =)

-Believe Out Loud: this was moving. ([livejournal.com profile] ladyofthelog: I thought of you when I saw this.)

-Pants are Overrated: if you're a Calvin and Hobbes fan, you will almost certainly enjoy this.

-[livejournal.com profile] beamjockey has some delightful reminiscences of knowing Phil Foglio.

-Who reviews the reviewer? Well, Roger Ebert does, with his own review of Thor.

-Tiny!Roger Waters and Tiny!David Gilmour: together again.

-I don't know if this makes me happy, but it certainly took my mind off things: Johnny Rotten, butter salesman.

And finally, I had somehow overlooked the existence of An Englishman in New York, in which John Hurt again plays Quentin Crisp. I remember looking for Quentin Crisp when I first moved to New York (he was known to eat lunch at the same restaurant every day, and to let people buy him lunch); alas, I never found him.

Odd but true: Charles Crichton, director of several Space:1999 episodes (as well as A Fish Called Wanda and The Lavender Hill Mob) died on 14 September 1999- the day after the Moon was to be knocked out of Earth's orbit.

Just back from a night at piano bar which included Shana's leading the room in a stirring version of "Amazing Grace," followed by Brian's tearing through a particularly steamy version of Tori Amos' "Leather" as a particularly hot customer did a partial strip for another guy (this is not usual piano bar practice)(sadly.) Somehow, that pairing really does sum up the piano bar experience for me.
