Sidney Lumet rest in peace. If you love movies, you've probably seen one of his: 12 Angry Men. Network. Dog Day Afternoon. The Verdict. He did about 50 movies, all in all; he was one of the very great ones. (And his book Making Movies stands neck-and-neck with John Sayles' Thinking in Pictures as the best book I've ever read on the process of film making itself, as written by an actual director.)

Damn, damn, damn.

3) I saw [livejournal.com profile] redstapler last night, along with several cool friends of hers: awesome in itself. (Hi, [livejournal.com profile] gaztherat!) At one point, I wound up talking to a girl about subjects ranging from a musical adaptation of Dune (to be called Dune!, naturally, and including third-stage Guild navigators rolled onstage to sing harmony and sandworms opening their mouths to reveal mini-orchestras... but nothing weird, mind you), to Torchwood.

Her: "My creative partner is obsessed with Torchwood..."

Me: "Musical... Torchwood... you wouldn't mean [livejournal.com profile] rm, would you?"

And so she did; it was [livejournal.com profile] mithrigil, who's been collaborating with RM on various musical projects of late. Hi, mith!
