Jul. 17th, 2010 01:48 pmI finally have the first 12 volumes of The Complete Stories of Theodore Sturgeon; I plan to spend a good portion of the next several months getting acquainted with them. (Theodore Sturgeon, in case you've not heard of him, was an SF author who started out as a contemporary of Heinlein and Asimov; in his prime, the emotional power of his work was more reminiscent of, perhaps, Ray Bradbury; among other things, he wrote the "Shore Leave" (although that script was extensively reworked) and "Amok Time" episodes of original Trek. The thing is, Sturgeon's work hasn't tended to get the same mass-market reprints as a Heinlein or a Clarke (although he's one of the most widely anthologized short story authors around); conversely, whenever his work shows up in used bookstores, it tends to be snapped up immediately.
