Via [livejournal.com profile] sartorias: an online article concerning beautiful handwriting; includes many samples. Well worth a look.

Signs at BP stations, saying that the customer is responsible for any spills (unless you're a huge oil company).

The photography of Tipper Gore. I have to say, she has a good eye, with a particularly fine sense of texture.

Four years from now, the Bigelow Aerospace company plans for real modules to be launched and assembled into the solar system’s first private space station. Paying customers — primarily nations that do not have the money or expertise to build a space program from scratch — would arrive a year later.

In 2016, a second, larger station would follow. The two Bigelow stations would then be home to 36 people at a time — six times as many as currently live on the International Space Station.

To round off the day- [livejournal.com profile] kradical links to a fascinating idea of Glenn Greenberg’s, to wit:

“Y'see, about 24 years ago, I learned that a number of songs that appeared on the earliest solo Beatle albums had actually been written before the breakup, and that many of these songs were actually worked on by the group during the Get Back (aka Let It Be) sessions. In fact, most of the songs on George Harrison's All Things Must Pass album were written while he was a Beatle—some of the songs date back as far as 1966.

“After extensive research, I was able to select the appropriate songs and put them together for a collection that I felt was a fair approximation of what the next Beatles album would have sounded like, had they stayed together beyond September 1969. This album, in the alternate reality I envisioned, would have been recorded sometime after the May 1970 release of the Let It Be album, and released at some point in 1971.”

(I’ve heard several such solo!Beatles- Beatles after Beatles?- mixes, but they’re rarely so scrupulous as to chronology; the best one I ever heard (circa 1990) started with Lennon’s “Nobody Told Me,”- recorded in 1980- and ended with Ringo’s 1973 “I’m the Greatest (written by John, who performs piano and harmony vocals; George plays guitar; other than the work the other three did on John’s posthumously released demos for the Anthology series, this is as close to a reunion as you can get).)

(As a bonus, there are links to the songs themselves; there's also a second such compilation.)
