Mar. 21st, 2010 12:32 pmAs we were dringing back from the airport, I was listening with half an ear as Darin and Bobbi were talking about how we were driving through a town in Tennessee that Johnny Cash had walked through, as part of his long walk to ask June Carter to marry him. This segued into a discussion of Cash's work1; I opined that his work often reminds me of Nick Cave's, and that an album of Cave covering various selections of Cash's (particularly from the Love, God, Murder compliation) would be a wonderful thing. (Conversely, I'll always wish Cash had covered the songs in Murder Ballads; the thought of him and June covering "Where the Wild Roses Grow" makes the hair on my arms stand up).
Thirty seconds later, we being the sort of people we are, we were singing the Muppets' "Mana mana, be beep- a deepee" song at the tops of our lungs.
And so it goes...
1I'm sure you knew about the range of Cash's work, including many albums of love songs and gospel- but did you know about Johnny Cash's Children's Album? It even has a song called "Dinosaur Song"!
