Something I've been meaning to post about: recently, through the good graces of a friend I found myself attending a party held by the Nielsen Haydens (the people behind the Making Light blog, and many other such shiny things). This isn't about my incidental socializing, however; the point of the story is that Soren was also there; at one point, he and Patrick Nielsen Hayden were discussing a point of science fiction trivia- something to do with the story "A Transatlantic Tunnel, Hurrah!" and whether or not it had been published under thus and such a title in this or that country, or some such. I was listening with half an ear as they debated the point, and finally decided to consult The Book...

...and Soren was right. A minor thing, perhaps, but to see him out-trivia one of the leading lights of the SF field, even for a moment... it's not as though everything is better, but for just a moment, the clouds broke, and the sun shone through. That's all.

Working on the next four (!) Harry Potter chapters; two-thirds done with a reread of Deathly Hallows, to be followed by a new Albus Severus chapter; had an insight this afternoon about how to make the Harry Potter/Breakfast Club mashup be about something more than all that "When you grow up, your heart dies" nonsense. (Memo to John Hughes: speaking as someone who's now older than most of the actors who played the adults were when the movie was filmed, my heart isn't dead yet.)(Also, given that the actress playing the character Duckie winds up with at the end of Pretty in Pink was Kristy Swanson, I still eagerly await Duckie, the Vampire Slayer fanfic. You know you want to, Internet!)

Life is good.
