Wow, right down to the very last second, 2009 isn't done leaving its mark. When I think of 2009, I try very, very hard to make myself think of New Zealand- because otherwise, it's been a ghastly fucking year for all concerned from start to finish.

Hey, all- I'm going to be spending part of this Saturday, my 41st birthday, at MoMA, at the Tim Burton exhibit; by all means, drop a line if you care to come along- it'd be great to see you! (It's not a birethday party per se- that'll probably happen around next February- just something to do on the day.)(Please note that on weekends, you need to purchase your timed ticked to the exhibit in advance.)

Researchers at New York University have developed a non-invasive method to take the pain out of fearful memories. The scientists determined that fear memories can be reactivated and updated with "safe" information. Later, those memories can be recalled without a fear response.

(See also this post about selectively erasing bad memories. The possibilities for this to go awry are truly horrifying, but I know a great many people who live with crippling PTSD, and if this *could* make things better, it’s definitely worth a look-see.)

Don't go to The Ding Dong Lounge on 106th and Columbus- the link goes to an account by a customer (someone I know) who was nearly raped by the bartender, who then thought he could smooth things over by buying her boyfriend a drink.
