Oct. 5th, 2009 03:13 pmI finally- after two visits to the purgatory that is the Maspeth UPS office- have a new cell phone; let the phone book listing rebuilding commence!

Saturday night was Springsteen, at one of the farewell to Giants Stadium shows (seriously, what's with getting rid of all our stadiums at once? do they go stale?). It was my first full-out stadium rock show in almost fifteen years, although I've seen a few club-sized live gigs since then (really should see more live music); I went with some friends from work, and listened to them happily chatter out the bus ride out. I'd never seen Springsteen live before, and wasn't sure what to expect; he'd just turned 60, after all (I remember when Jagger's turning 40- the age I am now- was a big deal). We got there, and headed off to our respective seats; I was a bit early, and spent the time watching people stream in from the parties on the parking lot. No opening act; they simply walked out, and started playing. In what I gather is a change from his usual sequencing, they did the entire "Born in the U.S.A." album in the middle of the show; other than that, they slid back and forth easily between the classics (he closed with "Thunder Road," one of my favorites), and never material. 60 or not, he can still work a crowd (and still do some stage-diving) for three hours; it was an amazing show, much needed, after a difficult week.
Also, Sunday was the medieval festival at Fort Tryon park; also a fun diversion.
