Aug. 17th, 2009 12:42 pmI went to my college campus- SUNY Purchase- this weekend. (I last went there almost ten years ago, as covered in this, my third entry ever. I wince as I read the trying-too-hard prose, and resist the urge to rewrite it all. If nothing else, LJ has helped me develop a more colloquial first person writing voice.) At first, I was struck largely by the changes: the mall, an open space in my time, has been largely built up; the library is decorated with signs that make it look like an amusement park; the large Henry Moore sculpture that sat on the mall in my day has been moved to just inside the main entrance. Then, we started passing places I knew: the spot where I unloaded my things from my dad's car for the first time. The window of the room where I spent my first night with Julie. The film building, including the sound stage where Todd Haynes shot part of Poison- which I worked on- and the film store where I'd take out equipment. Memory after memory, on and on and on.
