Jun. 20th, 2009 08:18 pmToday, in the name of political protest, I went into the city, and attended a protest on the situation in Iran, located near the UN. This involved:
1) Going to the local subway station.
2) Discovering that there's no weekend service; I then wait for a bus.
3) I watch one overcrowded bus after another sail past our stop; I finally say fuck it, and decide to walk into the city, via the Williamsburg Bridge.
4) Just as I'm midway across the Williamsburg Bridge, the rain setting switches from "drizzle" to "deluge." Squelch my way down the stairs of the nearest subway.
Happily, the protest itself was rather stirring, with a wide range of ages among the protestors; got to say hello to
fuyukodachi and (briefly)
wordsofastory; got to do my own small part in things.
(Random: I used to spend a great deal of time in the neighborhood near the UN, when I worked near there. I should get back in the habit; many lovely local gardens and sculptures. There was a meditation room in the UN itself that I was quite fond of, and would greatly like to revisit, although entering the UN, these days, is nearly as much of a hassle as entering an airport.)
