-Work kept me late Friday night; had hoped to go see a music gig after, but got out too late =/
-Did, however, meet up with
frobisher and
nex0s for sketching in Central Park on Saturday; got to give Frobisher a T-shirt I'd been holding since before CBGBs closed.
-After this, I went to take part in a script reading- the first acting I'd done in quite a while. The script, by two friends of mine from college, was a reworking of Dante's Inferno; in addition to various minor roles, I played Satan, and promptly scored a hit with my reading. I don't think I could ever be an actor for a living- auditions would defeat me utterly, and anyone who can put up with them has my profound respect- but it's a fun skill to practice, once in a while.
-Can anyone recommend a good book on Minoan culture? For some reason, I'm having damn little luck scaring one up.
-Having just seen it again, for the first time in about 20 years- man, is The Deer Hunter ever a movie directed by an ad man: good acting, photography and editing, and a quickly fostered illusion of emotional depth (followed by one of the most racist narratives since Birth of a Nation, laced with improbable coincidences that would put Dickens to shame, but that's another story). How strange that such a meretricious movie would help lead to the formation of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. (And I have to admit, that guitar theme is extremely moving- "Cavatina," I believe it's called; composed by Stanley Myers for some other movie, IIRC.)
-So, Baggott Inn is closing? Sad news; too many closings of late. I do not approve.
