Jan. 19th, 2008 12:22 amRandom HP thought: I think we have to assume that magical creatures such as dragons, bowtruckles, and so on are bound to areas of magical enchantment: that is, Hogwarts, the Forbidden Forest, Wizarding residences, and so on. Otherwise, it's the Australian cane toad problem: the magical creatures would breed without any natural predators, and swarm the English environment. This is amusing if one imagines hordes of bowtruckles in Trafalgar Square; less so if one imagines a magical pandemic of, say, dragon pox (the disease that killed Draco's grandfather.) Harry Potter and the Stand...? (note that there are exceptions to this: dementors and house elves have both been seen in Muggle areas. In both cases, they may well have been enchanted to be able to do so.)
